The purpose of fire compartmentation is to to prevent the spread of fire to or from another part of the same building or an adjoining building. The compartment wall seperate the fire risk areas in a building (low, medium and high risk). The higher the fire risk in the area, the more fire resistant the compartment (30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes or 120 minutes). It also depends on the type of building and its height.
