Consecutive interpreting: taking notes and reformulating a speech In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter firstly takes notes whilst the speech is being given. After several minutes have passed, the interpreter reformulates the speech’s main points. There is no need for any specialist equipment for consecutive interpreting. The interpreter is seated around the meeting table, preferably alongside the speaker. This interpreting technique is used less frequently as there is the obvious drawback of prolonging your meeting time as the same content has to be heard twice: once from the speaker and then again from the interpreter.
