High performance plate type heat-exchangers consist of a number of formed, sealable heat-exchange plates according to the respective requirements. The alternating pressed plates and channel spacing cause highly turbulent flow behaviour, optimal self cleaning effect and highest possible heat transfer. Use of high-grade materials such as titanium, titanium palladium, highly alloyed steels and even a UniCarb carbon/graphite version help ensure UniGasket heat-exchangers are extremely economical compared to other heat-exchanger types. The plates are clamped to a rack between frame plate and pressure plate by means of clamping bolts.

These high-grade steel plates are hard-soldered by means of pure copper / lead flux using the vacuum method to produce a compact unit. Hard-soldered heat-exchangers are pressure vessels. In order to meet the safety regulations for pressure vessels, each heat-exchanger is submitted to a pressure and a leak test. The UniWeld combines the advantages of conventional shell and tube heat-exchangers with spiral and plate heat-exchangers due to its design and construction. This mixed construction is based on the design of the heat-transfer channels, which are on one side in the tube design and on the other side in a plate heat-exchanger. UniWeld Hybrid exchangers utilise in this way the advantage of tubular heat-exchangers (high temperature, pressure resistant and solid construction) and plate heat-exchangers (high heat transfer, minimal space and low logarithmic temperature difference) in a compact system. Other advantage compared with gasketed plate heat-exchangers is the safe splitting of the 2 media at pressures up to 80 bar and between -200°C and +900°C.
