Knight Optical can offer transmit and receive windows and mirrors for LIDAR systems using visible, NIR (0.9 to 1.5µm) and Mid-Waveband Infra-Red (MWIR, 3 to 5µm) light. Since the 1960s, scientists have used LIDAR (light detection and ranging) to study the atmosphere. Short pulses of laser light are used to detect particles or gases in the atmosphere, like a radar bounces radio waves off rain drops in clouds. A telescope collects and measures reflected laser radiation, like a radar dish collects the radar signal, leading to a profile of the atmosphere's structure along the path of the laser beam. Researchers can then determine the location, distribution, and nature of atmospheric particles and molecular species using an advanced LIDAR method called the Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) technique. Knight Optical are very experienced within the Thermal Imaging market, including anti-reflective and diamond-like-carbon coatings used on the optical components in these systems. Knight Optical know exactly what you are looking for. Thermal imaging uses infrared materials such as Germanium and Silicon, however in there raw form the transmission is not the best it could be. For example, Germanium typically transmits at <45% but with an AR coating applied, it can improve transmission to >60%. This increase in transmission means that the camera sensor receives a better signal through the protective window. Also with protective windows, we can provide high quality DLC coatings. We ensure the coating is Salt Fog Tested to MIL-SPEC standard to ensure that the coating withstands harsh environments. Gas Detection Systems use Interference Bandpass Filters to identify the emission of a type of gas. Different gases emit at a specific wavelength which makes it identifiable when using a relevant Interference Bandpass Filter.
