Examples include; diesel engines, fluid film bearings, shaft vibration or problems with lube oil/ cooling systems. * Detailed shaft alignment modelling/ design calculations of bearing load distribution. * Ship propulsion shaft alignment calculations, measurements and assessments using advanced tools and techniques. * Bore alignment offsets using the Taylor-Hobson micro-alignment telescope and targets. * Bearing loads by shaft jacking using load cell and displacement transducer with computer data logging. * Engine, main bearing loads by crankshaft jacking. * Engine crank web deflection measurements. * Bearing loads by strain gauge shafting bending measurements. * Assessment/ interpretation of measured bearing loads (versus design). * Calculations of bearing offset adjustments and load changes for optimised local alignment and shaftline bearing load distribution. * Measurement of alignment of elastic couplings and cardan shafts. * Strain gauge measurements as well as any calculations of stress/ applied force. Components may be situated outdoors. Best practice is applied in gauge configurations/ installations along with best quality digitizer devices. * Engineering calculations, mathematical modelling and design, e.g. mechanics, mechanisms. * Preparation of formal written reports of the highest standard.
