Factors affecting the fatigue strength of bolts It is believed that metal fatigue, to some extent, is due to changes in the metallurgical properties of the material. Somehow, metals fail prematurely when alternately loaded. After more than a decade of work by our Juxin Enterprise team, fatigue is caused by one or more cracks in a material. Fatigue is progressive cracking. Cracking can start with some existing defect, for example, inclusion in the metal, or at a high-stress point, for example, a notch, and grow slowly with each load. It can take millions of repeated loads (known as stress cycles) to detect a crack. As the crack length increases, the remaining material is subjected to more and more stress as the area to sustain the load becomes smaller and smaller. When the crack reaches a critical length, it goes through the material, leading to complete failure. A fatigued crash takes several years to pass through the bolt, "fatigue failure", is often used to describe damage to a part due to continuous loading.
