Positive displacement blowers and single-stage screw compressors start up directly or following a star delta circuit if no gentle start or no frequency converter control are available. The unit is subjected to heavy mechanical load and requires high start-up current. For this reason, counterpressure must be reduced during the start-up phase; this is achieved by blowing off the increasing volume flow. The fully automatic medium-controlled STRATE relief valve EVA has been specially designed for this procedure. As well as not requiring any maintenance, the STRATE relief valve EVA is an extremely economical device for reducing load during start-up since there is no longer any need to use complex externally controlled valves or electronic start-up aids. In this way, the heat is completely lost. External heat recovery unit AirWatt is designed to efficiently exploit the waste heat, generated during compression of air in rotary screw compressors. Sometimes this represents more than 70% of the energy consumed by the rotary screw compressor for the operation. This heat can then be used to heat domestic water or for heating, at almost no additional costs. This does not only help save money but is also environmentally friendly. The unit has two separate piping systems with counterflow. Energy exchange from a compressor to sanitary water occurs in a plate heat exchanger, where compressor oil and sanitary water meets. The unit is controlled by a thermostatic valve, which prevents the compressor system from getting too cold and damaging the compressor.
