AMETEK Specialty Metal Products employs a wrought powder metallurgical process to manufacture custom gauge and width strip materials used as the outside sheathing of flux cored wire and metal cored welding wire. Our weld wire sheathing material is used in both flux cored wire and metal cored welding wire processes. The wire sheathing is formed into a tubular product by our customers and the center of the tube contains the ‘fill’ (flux, metal powders, etc) to bring the wire to the desired chemistry. The finished wire is used across a wide breadth of industries in processes such as: Submerged Arc Welding (SMAW) Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Wire Arc Thermal Spray Flux cored welding wire producers use our metal sheathing materials to prepare finished wire for thermal spray and in surfacing applications, in high temperature and corrosive environments. Cobalt Our Ductile Cobalt Alloys are used to produce wire to hardface applications in the construction, mining, and oil and gas industry. Our proprietary process allows us to offer high Cobalt containing products (91% Cobalt or more) while maintaining a highly ductile strip for wire forming.

Hardfacing Powders are manufactured to have the precise size, shape, and chemistry required for optimal thermal spraying characteristics. Our powders are available in a wide variety of alloys to give the workpiece desired finished qualities - whether it’s good machinability, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, ductility, hardness, or high strength. No matter the application, we have a powder that can be manufactured to your exact specifications and meet your coating needs. Hardfacing Process Hardfacing or surface coating is a process of spraying or welding metallic powders onto a workpiece or substrate to give it a specific hardness, wear resistance, or corrosion resistance. This process requires the appropriate alloy and particle size distribution for a specific deposition technology. Appropriately selected powders yield the best properties and manufacturing efficiencies.

Rodar® is an Iron-Nickel-Cobalt alloy with an unique linear thermal expansion coefficient. It is also stable to cryogenic temperatures. This combination of characteristics has prompted its application in electrical package sealing of glass/metal and ceramic/metal. Rodar® can be formed and deep drawn from the annealed temper. A 1/8 hard temper is optimum for heavy piercing.The material can be joined to other metals by welding, brazing, and soldering. The joint design must consider that Rodar® has a lower expansion coefficient than most other metals. Available Sizes: Rodar® is available from Hamilton Precision Metals as strip product in thicknesses from 0.001” to 0.060” (0.0254 mm to 1.524 mm) and width up to 12.0” (304.8 mm). The material conforms to ASTM F15, AMS 7728 and UNS K94610.
