YXLON offers a full range of high quality X-Ray Sources, ideal for use on the JME Pipeline Crawler range or as stand-alone solutions for NDT Inspection projects. Zirconium is a silver-grey, shiny heavy metal. In its pure form it is easy to work, corrosion resistant even at high temperatures and has a very low neutron capture cross section. In addition, zirconium offers good stability against structural damage caused by neutron irradiation and against cavitation by coolant flows. The metal is mainly used pure or alloyed with 1.2-1.7% tin, for corrosion resistant pipes, fittings and valves in the chemical industry. This special alloy is called Zircaloy. Zirconium plays an important role in reactor construction. It is used for fuel element claddings and holders, for the pressure vessel lining, and for all structural components that come into contact with neutrons. In the rocket and jet aircraft industry zirconium is used for the manufacture of combustion chambers and feed lines. In electron and X-ray tubes zirconium is used as getter material.

For the high-resolution devices used in general X-ray applications, mammography, angiography and computed tomography, Plansee develops and manufactures extremely robust X-ray anodes and components for X-ray tubes. The product range includes anodes made from molybdenum alloys such as TZM and MHC with focal tracks consisting of various tungsten-rhenium alloys. Plansee manufactures molybdenum-vanadium and molybdenum-niobium targets that are specially designed for use in mammography applications and which can be optionally equipped with precious metal focal tracks. The product range also comprises material combinations including copper and precious metals and brazed graphite elements on the metallic disc. As braze materials V/Ta/Zr composites, titanium, zirconium and other materials are used. Plansee supplies anodes as ready-to-use assemblies including the rotor, heat shield and shaft.

The TSD225/3 is a very small focus dual filament monopolar tube for light alloys, composites or small steel thicknesses. The extremely small size of the small filament is designed for applications with magnifications or where definition is of first importance. This tube can be the ideal replacement of a µ Focus solution if the dose output of the µ Focus is not sufficient to cancel the natural noise of X-ray photons. This tube is perfectly adapted to Radioscopy applications or low power generators. Slightly larger than a 160 tube, the housing diameter is only 124 mm which will ensure that the tube can still be inserted even in tiny spaces. The tube shielding is internal and reduces the radiation leakage to less than 1 R/h @ 1 m as required by International standards. It is a well-known fact that X-Rays, unless properly controlled and directed, are very harmful to the human body and have even been known to cause death. As a consequence, various materials are being utilizes for the insulating of the X-Ray tubes. There are two general methods of securing this protection. One is by the use of protective plasters, such as barium sulphate plaster, and the other is the use of sheet lead. In the use of plaster there are couple of disadvantages. But sheet lead has none of these disadvantages and is consequently considered the best possible protection. The Advisory Committee on X-Ray Protection of the International Congress of Radiology specifically warns against the use of protective plasters in installations of over 75 kV.The thickness of lead required varies with the power of the X-Ray apparatus.

Finding out the unrealized potential through the use of weight per unit area gauges One of the most vital factors in the production of wood panels is the constant spreading of material. If tolerances are exceeded, higher material and energy consumption are the consequences. MSX, which constantly moves back and forth across the mat before it enters the hot press, maintains tolerances within the optimum range. The result is homogeneous forming in lengthwise and crosswise directions. The enormous technical developments of “Weight per Unit Area Gauges” of the past years are physically not visible. What are the previous limitations of weight per unit area gauges? The x-ray tube needed a cooling device. This resulted in a reduced lifetime. Electronic Wood Systems developed a detector with extremely high sensitivity – probably unmatched in the world. Due to this new detector the net power could be reduced to a small portion of the permitted power.

The continuous non-contact Area-Weight Scale CONTI-SCALE X MULTIENERGY determines the panel weight and its distribution during production by measuring the area-weight and by taking the known panel dimensions into account. CONTI-SCALE X MULTIENERGY uses X-ray technology. Two X-ray tubes are located on a horizontal frame above the panel. The low energy X-ray beams are focused across the production width, but scan the full width of the panel. Metal plates on each side of the system prevent someone reaching inside the radiation area. There is no risk to human body parts which might stay beside/outside the system. The X-ray energy will be absorbed. Several detectors are lined up along the lower beam under the panel to measure (per track) the absorbed X-ray energy. This is how the area-weight is measured.
