During loading and unloading inflammable liquids or solids an explosive gas and dust atmosphere may arise – a single spark can be sufficient to initiate an explosion. To prevent this, the occurring electrostatic charges must be discharged safely. TIMM’s Grounding Control Devices ensure static electricity is discharged to the ground by a grounding cable and continuously monitor the grounding quality. If there is an interruption of the grounding connection, the filling process will be interrupted immediately.

The danger of electrostatic charges must always be observed when loading, unloading or handling bulk solids or inflammable liquids in the petrochemical, chemical, gas, as well as in the food and feed industry. For application with containers, IBCs, barrels or trays, the EKX-4 (2-pole) is the Grounding Control Device to choose. APPLICATION AREAS: EKX-4 (2-pole) is mounted stationary, close to the loading/unloading gantry. It is used in gas and dust hazardous areas of zone 1 and 21 for objects to be grounded, that cannot be detected by the standard 1-pole Grounding Control Device EKX-4 such as containers, IBCs or barrels. Further areas of application are the grounding of materials handled with trays on conveyors in automated industrial processes.

The Overfill Prevention Controller EUS-2 is the central part of the overfill prevention system according to European VOC Directive 94/63/EC and American API RP 1004. EUS-2 monitors the level sensors at the tanker compartments, the truck grounding and the vapor recovery connection. The filling process is interrupted immediately at the loading gantry, if a critical situation is detected. The controller is able to detect the type of truck installation and activates the required operatingmode automatically. This interoperability allows to load trucks of different carriers.

SEK-3 establishes a monitored equipotential bonding of very low resistance between ship and pier which counteracts the physical effect of electrical potential difference. This explosion protection measure prevents uncontrolled sparking when handling conductive elements at the terminal. In addition, the SEK-3 signals unsafe situations (such as over-voltage or over-current caused by active sources) by flashing LEDs and switching off the corresponding control outputs.
