White masterbatch is primarily used for the production of films, blown bottles, injection molded products and profile extrusions. Antiblock properties are required for film and flexible packaging production. Antiblock additives enable the reduction of adhesion (also known as “blocking”) between 2 film layers, which results in much better handling both during production and during later use of the product.

In film or flexible packaging processing, the COF (coefficient of friction) is a limiting factor for processing speeds. This is due to the tendency of films to adhere to metallic or other film surfaces. Slip agents considerably reduce this effect and provide for more efficient production conditions.

Antifogging agents prevent the formation of condensation drops on plastic film. Condensation drops are undesirable on food packaging because they mar the package imaging and the packaged item is not clearly visible. In greenhouse film they prevent condensation from dripping, which results in brown spots caused by the concentration of light. In antifogging agents, special additives are worked into the polymer which migrate to the surface and minimize surface tension.

Because most polymers can be damaged by UV radiation, UV protection is required in many application areas. This can be achieved by two different modes of action UV absorption by converting UV radiation into thermal energy, UV absorbers form a protective film that protects the polymer and the packaged item from damage. UV stabilization the addition of UV stabilizers can prevent polymer damage and increase its durability.

Processing aids are used in many applications for the optimization of processing conditions to avoid problems in the end product. The melt flow of the polymer in the extruder is improved and the shear forces during transfer to metallic walls are reduced by the fluoropolymers present. Material output can be increased by adding processing aids, and energy costs can be lowered thanks to pressure reduction. They are also an effective remedy for problems like shark skin and nozzle deposits.

PolyPlus® LD 1925 ZZ is a versatile, stabilized, and extremely effective purge compound on an LDPE basis specially developed to reduce the cleaning times of extrusion and injection molding plants to a minimum. It should be used before dismantling and cleaning the extruder, during planned and unforeseen extruder downtimes and during material and colour changes. PolyPlus® LD 1925 ZZ contains surfactants and abrasive agents with mechanical and chemical cleaning properties to remove degraded polymer and pigments from the extruder and from the die. The use of PolyPlus® LD 1925 ZZ immediately before the cleaning process has shown that downtimes can be reduced my more than 50%! This also applies for product and/or colour changes.
