This special type of coffee grows on the slopes of Mount Hualalai and Mauna on Hawaii's largest island, the Big Island, and is known for its natural sweetness. Mineral-rich volcanic rock combined with high humidity means that the best growing conditions in the world prevail here, as they say, and the coffee plant loves that. The terms "extra fancy", "fancy" and "number one" indicate the best quality of Kona coffee. Only between 16 and 24,000 bags of green coffee - which is really very little - can be harvested annually, which is why Kona coffee is usually only available as a mixture with other types of green coffee. These facts mean that 100% Kona coffee is very difficult to come by.
