Knight Optical has successfully launched a range of Stock Optical Domes for use in Pyronometers. Pyranometer/pyrgeometer are used for measuring solar irradiance. Typical applications being to understand where insulation needs to be within a building, climate studies and solar monitoring systems. A dome is essentially a window that has two parallel curves faces. Domes are used to shield the thermopile/ sensor used for making the measurements within a Pyranometer. Our domes are polished to high standards having good form error and high clarity with excellent transmission in the UV, NIR and FarIR spectrums allowing for accurate measurement. Capabilities: Domes are readily mountable, optically clear and manufactured to a high standard. Commonly employed for high-tech applications include excimer lasers, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermography and other infrared (IR) systems, MgF2’s durability and birefringent properties make for a sought-after optical window across a spectrum of industries. What’s more, its stability in water means it’s ideally suited for outer surfaces, such as windows. With its birefringence (beneficial for polarisers in the UV waveband), transmittance between 0.1µm and 7µm and at over 90% between 0.4-5.0µm and hardness of circa HK576, MgF2 is one of the hardest optical fluorides. The application characteristics of R134a are analyzed as follows: 1.R134a has a global warming potential (GWP) of 0.25 and R22 of 0.36, both of which are greenhouse gases. 2.the ozone depletion potential (ODP) of R134a is 0 and R22 is 0.06. This is the reason why R134a has become an environmentally friendly refrigerant. 3.the specific volume of R134a is 1.47 times that of R22, and the latent heat of evaporation is small, so the refrigeration capacity of R134a unit is only 60% of that of R22 unit. Calculated according to the price of unit cooling capacity, the price of the R22 unit is about 60% of that of the R134a unit. 4. the thermal conductivity of R134a is 10% lower than that of R22, so the heat exchange area of the heat exchanger of the R134a unit needs to be larger. 5.R134a has strong water absorption, which is 20 times that of R22, so the dryer in the unit system has higher requirements to avoid ice blocking.

Knight Optical offer a range of Stock N-BK7 Dome Windows, for use with Underwater Lighting. A dome is an optical window composed of two parallel curved surfaces. Domes are commonly used in defence applications and often in extreme environments such as Submersible ROV’s. The shape of the window creates a naturally strong shape that gets tougher under pressure. Using a curved dome optical surface allows for an increased beam angle, therefore allowing a greater area to be lit from one light source. For visible applications, N-BK7 with its high optical quality and uniform transmission and low absorption in the visible spectrum makes it an ideal material for underwater lighting. A tough and cost effective solution which allows for good transmission of the light source in the underwater environment will both protect the light source as well as transmitting from 300nm up to 2µm.
