From Quartz Tubes and Aspheric Lenses to sought-after Germanium Windows and Fresnel Lenses, our optics are specified for a diverse variety of applications – such as magnification and light diffusion. One of the most popular uses for Moulded Optics is light sensor devices. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock N-BK7 Dome Windows, for use with Underwater Lighting. A dome is an optical window composed of two parallel curved surfaces. Domes are commonly used in defence applications and often in extreme environments such as Submersible ROV’s. The shape of the window creates a naturally strong shape that gets tougher under pressure. Using a curved dome optical surface allows for an increased beam angle, therefore allowing a greater area to be lit from one light source. For visible applications, N-BK7 with its high optical quality and uniform transmission and low absorption in the visible spectrum makes it an ideal material for underwater lighting. A tough and cost effective solution which allows for good transmission of the light source in the underwater environment will both protect the light source as well as transmitting from 300nm up to 2µm. Binoculars and Periscopes invert an image to make an object appear closer. There are two types of prisms that can be used for binoculars: Porro and Roof Prisms. Porro prisms are used in a pair to create an optical path. The image would pass through the first prism and which then inverts the image, the second prism then flips the image, so it is making the distant object appear closer. Roof prisms work in a similar fashion however are one prism and this design performs in the same way. Used particularly for smaller compact spaces as there are aligned in one piece to its objective lenses. Knight Optical can offer you Plane Mirrors (general, λ/1 and λ/4), for use within Fibre Optic Applications in a range of materials such as Soda-lime float glass, white float glass, and BK7 glass. Our plane mirrors are used within fibre optic applications such as testing the fibre optic signal to help understand the strength of the signal. Plane mirrors also known as front surface mirrors or first surface mirrors are used widely within Fibre Optic applications. As stock we hold many general purpose, λ/1 and λ/4 with a range of up to 6 types of coatings such as Enhanced Aluminium, Ali/SiO2 and Ali/Mgf2. Germanium Material offers excellent transmission across the IR wavelength range. Making it ideal for use within Thermal Imaging Cameras; which are used extensively in CCTV applications. Germanium typically operates in the 2µm to 14µm spectral range; that covers the LWIR (8-12μm) and MWIR (3-5μm) thermal imaging wavelength range. Our Germanium windows are available from stock, custom size and shape with Anti-Reflection coatings on one or both sides, and/or with Hard Carbon Diamond coatings.
