Grønne certifikater udstedes og sælges af producenterne af den grønne energi til forbrugere eller elselskaber. Det er et system, som skal sikre, at elselskaber ikke lyver om, hvor deres strøm kommer fra. Formålet er at matche strømforbruget med en tilsvarende produktion af strøm fra vedvarende energikilder. Grøn strøm kan være mærket med ét eller to grønne blade. Klimahelten er et produkt fra Strømtid, som er mærket med ét grønt blad, hvilket betyder, at det er et elprodukt baseret på vedvarende energikilder uden yderligere klimatiltag.
