The cylinders used in lifting equipment must be designed in such a way that their weight is as low as possible. For this reason, welded constructions are mainly used, with piston rods made of tubes, often of special materials, which make it possible to reduce wall thickness while maintaining the required load limits. Particular attention must be paid to the welds, which are often inspected with ultrasound, as the breakage of a welded part can easily lead to very serious damage.
